Robert Shank of Rhodes and Lisa Owens of Centre named 2018 SAA Cross Country Coaches of the Year

ATLANTA (Nov. 8, 2018) - After winning another Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship, Centre Women's Cross Country Coach Lisa Owens and Rhodes Men's Cross Country Coach Robert Shankman were named the 2018 SAA Coaches of the Year.

On the men's side, Shankman led Rhodes to its fourth straight conference title. The Lynx finished with the second-lowest SAA Championship meet total, 19 points. That was only two points higher the record Rhodes set in 2017. Toler Freyaldenhoven of Rhodes edged his teammates en route to SAA Runner of the Year honors after he finished first individually with a time of 25:15.4. 2017 winner Spencer Fields was second with a time of 25:25.0 while teammates Dominic Voehler and Adam Hearn closed the top-four.

Owens was again named SAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading Centre to its third league title since 2014. Under Owens, the Colonels also won SAA Runner of the Year, Annie Rodenfels, SAA Newcomer of the Year, Amelia Fogle, and had five runners in the top-10 at the conference championship.
