BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Nov. 10, 2019) - The No. 9 Berry volleyball team won its third straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship, Sunday.
The Vikings topped tournament host and SAA Regular Season champion Birmingham-Southern, 3-0. With its win, Berry received the league's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Tournament. BSC, who has a 24-6 overall record, will now await to receive an at-large bid into nationals.
Berry opened the match by winning the first two sets by scores of 25-19. The Vikings then earned their title by outlasting the Panthers 25-18 in the third set.
Overall, Emily Hancock paced the blue and white with 15 kills. Carson VanCampden added 12 kills while Laura Beier was strong on defense with 22 digs.
Julia Denby led BSC with 11 kills. Caroline Johnson and Miles Ray tired to slow the Berry attack with 16 and 15 digs, respectively.
Berry has now won five SAA championships in eight seasons.
