ATLANTA (Oct. 14, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Lauren Dwyer of Hendrix and Caroline Johnson of Birmingham-Southern have been named SAA Volleyball Players of the Week.
Offense - Lauren Dwyer - Outside Hitter - Hendrix
Dwyer led Hendrix to a 2-0 record, with roads wins at Centre and Sewanee. First, against the Colonels, she posted 18 kills with only one error. She hit .415, also had three aces, and finished with 22 points.
A day later in an impressive comeback win at Sewanee, she added 11 kills and had only two errors on 39 attacks. She finished with 13 total points and now has over 1,000 kills in her career.
For the week, Dwyer averaged 3.22 kills per set while hitting .325.
Defense - Caroline Johnson - Libero - Birmingham-Southern
Johnson posted 60 digs in two key conference wins for BSC, as well as a match against No. 1 Emory. The backline defender finished with 17 digs in against the top-ranked Eagles. She followed that performance with 31 stops in a big win against Berry. A day later, Johnson finished with 12 digs in a three-set victory against Oglethorpe.
For the week, she averaged 5.5 digs per set.
