Erwin and Johnson of BSC earn SAA Volleyball Player of the Week awards

ATLANTA (Sept. 23, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Rebecca Erwin and Caroline Johnson of Birmingham-Southern have been named SAA Volleyball Players of the Week.

Offense - Rebecca Erwin - Middle Blocker - Birmingham-Southern

Erwin was outstanding for the Panthers. Against No. 5 Berry, she posted 14 kills and a .219 attack percentage. Then against another SAA member, Oglethorpe, she added 12 kills and hit .579 in a win against the Stormy Petrels. 

For the week, Erwin was consistent, hitting a .399 average and helping the Panthers win six of nine sets. Overall, BSC is 8-3 and a perfect 2-0 in league play. 

Defense - Caroline Johnson - Libero - Birmingham-Southern

Johnson posted 45 digs, or 5.0 digs per set in two key conference wins for BSC. The backline defender finished with 32 digs in a key win against No. 5 Berry. She followed that performance with 13 stops in a win against OU. This season, Johnson had reached double-digit digs in every match but two for the black and gold.

She currently ranks third in the SAA in digs (188) and digs per set (5.08).
