DANVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2019) – After a thrilling win by Rhodes and an impressive victory from defending champion Oglethorpe, the 2019 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Basketball Championship game is set.
The Lynx and Stormy Petrels are scheduled to tipoff at 3:00 p.m., Sunday in Jackson, Miss.
Semifinal - Rhodes 71, Millsaps 68 (OT)
For the second straight game, Rhodes played well when it counted. The Lynx rallied back to force overtime and then won in the extra frame over host and No. 1 seed Millsaps. Rhodes was led by Lindsey Whiteside who had 19 points. All-SAA performer Allie Young, who was in foul trouble most of the game, added six of her 11 points in overtime.
Rhodes trailed by nine going into the final quarter, but Whiteside hit a jumper with 21 seconds left in regulation that finally closed the gap. Millsaps had one final chance in the fourth quarter to win the contest, however, Millicent Butler's jumper rolled off the rim and was grabbed by Alyssa Owen.
Semifinal - Oglethorpe 54, Centre 34
In the nightcap, Oglethorpe looked like the defending SAA champion. The Stormy Petrels used their stout defense to limit Centre to an 18.6 field goal percentage. OU was paced by Lauren Ransom, who add 11 points and nine rebounds, and guard Jada Triplett, who pitched in 12 points.
