ATLANTA (Feb. 7, 2018) — After opening the year 2-0 with a pair of run-rule victories over Covenant yesterday, the Berry College softball team was tabbed No. 19 in the first National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll of the 2018 season.
The Vikings completed a historic season last year collecting a program-best 40 wins, their fifth straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular season title and their third straight trip to the NCAA tournament. Offensively, Berry was one of the top teams in NCAA Division III, outscoring opponents 328-82 and setting program records in doubles (94) and stolen bases (107).
Berry also had one of their best seasons pitching, earning a 1.29 collective team ERA, holding opposing batters to a .155 average and 149 hits, averaged 6.99 strikeouts per seven innings, collected 18 shutouts and allowed just 82 runs on the year, all program records.
Berry will be back home on Sunday for a doubleheader against Huntingdon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
