ATLANTA (May 7, 2018) - After winning their first-ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament Championship, the Rhodes men's lacrosse team will host Huntingdon in the NCAA Tournament.
Both teams make their first-ever NCAA postseason appearances after earning automatic bids. In the program's seven-year history, the Lynx and Hawks will meet on Wednesday, May 9th at 3 p.m. CST in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Rhodes who has won each of their last seven contests are ranked 15th in the latest NCAA South Regional ranking. The Lynx went undefeated in conference play for the second consecutive year, earning the SAA's regular-season title (6-0) They are 13-2 on the season.
Huntingdon, also in their seventh year as a program hold a 16-2 record after winning the inaugural USA South Athletic Conference championship in April. The Hawks are on a six-game win streak as they head to Memphis.
Rhodes is 4-2 against Huntingdon, winning each of their last four matchups. The two teams were scheduled to play earlier this year but storms altered those plans. Last year the Lynx defeated the Hawks 9-7 in Alabama.
There are 25 automatic bids and 11 at-large berths into the 36-team NCAA Division III tournament. The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the Sweet 16 on May 12th, hosted by Gettysburg, the No. 1-ranked team in the South's Regional rankings.
The eventual Division III national championship game will be on Sunday, May 27 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
