DANVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2019) – All four top four seeds advanced in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) quarterfinals being played at Centre College in Danville, Ky.
No. 1 Centre 75, No. 8 Rhodes 66
A year ago, host Centre dropped its SAA Quarterfinal match to eventual tournament champion Berry. This year, the Colonels advanced after topping a pesky Rhodes team. Centre was led by forward Jacob Bates, who finished with a game-high 23 points.
The Colonels shot 45.2 percent from the floor which helped Centre pull away the final eight minutes. Rhodes hung around after the Lynx received double-figure scoring by four of five starters. That included a team-high 15 points from Mitch Weatherford and Bryce Berry.
No. 4 Oglethorpe 65, No. 5 Birmingham-Southern 62 (OT)
Oglethorpe guard Will Perry finished with 24 points and nine rebounds as the Stormy Petrels survive and advanced in an overtime thriller against BSC.
The Panthers forced the extra period as Zachary Allison made a layup with 16 remaining in regulation. During the extra five minutes, the score remained tight. Allison made a free throw with 16 seconds left which gave the Panthers a one-point lead. However, two free throws by Tom Inungu and two from Lane Foster pushed OU through into the Saturday's semifinals.
No. 2 Berry 62, No. 7 Millsaps 60
Millsaps gave second-seed Berry all they wanted, but in the end, the Vikings advanced after the Majors missed two free throws late in the second half.
Berry, the 2018 SAA Tournament champion was paced by senior Elijah Hirsh, who finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds.
No. 3 Sewanee 82, No. 6 Hendrix 64
Led by great shooting and timing defense, third-seeded Sewanee defeated Hendrix, Friday.
Sophomore Luke Smith led the Tigers with 27 points.
