INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division III Football Committee announced today the field of 32 teams for the 2019 NCAA Division III Football Championship, with the Berry College Vikings selected to host the Huntingdon College Hawks on Saturday at noon to open round one play.
The Vikings, ranked No. 20 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top-25, earned one of 26 automatic bids courtesy of the program's fourth consecutive Southern Athletic Association (SAA) championship. Berry closed the regular season with a 9-1 overall record and a 7-1 mark in league play. The Vikings will carry a 22-game home winning streak into the playoffs. The Hawks enter the postseason with a 7-3 record after clinching their fourth USA South title in the past five seasons. This will be Huntingdon's fifth trip to the postseason and Berry's third.
The two teams last met in the opening round of the 2017 playoffs at Valhalla. Berry won that game 34-20, claiming the program's first playoff victory. This season, the Vikings roll into the playoffs averaging 36.1 points per game while allowing just 14.0 points per contest. Huntingdon is averaging 36.0 points per game and allowing 26.3.
Ticket prices will be $10 for adults, $5 for students with student identification, children under 12 and seniors. Children two years of age and younger are free. There will be no online ticket purchases or complimentary tickets. Fans can purchase tickets early at the Krannert Center Info Desk on Berry's campus later in the week.
