ATLANTA (Oct. 28, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Robert Shufford (Birmingham-Southern), Mark Sommerville (Berry), and Kip Vanhoose (Hendrix) have been named SAA Football Player of the Week winners.
Offense - Robert Shufford - Junior Running Back - Birmingham-Southern
Shufford continued his 100-yard rushing streak by netting 282 yards in the Panthers' 38-21 win over Centre. That mark broke his previous career-high he set last week. Shufford's 282 yards were second-most for a single game in SAA history.
He averaged 13.4 yards per carry with his longest of the day a 66-yard touchdown. Shufford scored three touchdowns and leads the country in three different rushing categories.
Defense - Mark Sommerville - Junior Defensive Back - Berry
Sommerville led Berry to a 54-10 victory over Rhodes, Saturday. The junior recorded three tackles, a tackle for a loss, a pass breakup and a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Special Teams - Kip Vanhoose - Junior Kick Returner - Hendrix
Vanhoose returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown in Hendrix's road win at Austin. He also rushed 11 times for 44 yards against the Roos.
