ATLANTA (Sept. 30, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Kip Vanhoose (Hendrix), Michael Jewett (Trinity), and Matthew Syverson (Berry) have been named SAA Football Player of the Week winners.
Offense - Kip Vanhoose - Junior Running Back - Hendrix
Vanhoose rushed for a career-high 214 yards on 17 attempts n Hendrix's 34-24 win at Birmingham-Southern. Additionally, he scored one touchdown and averaged 12.6 yards per carry. His 214 yards was the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in Hendrix history.
Defense - Michael Jewett - Sophomore Linebacker - Trinity
Jewett led the Tigers to a 20-13 SAA road win at Centre, Saturday. He finished with 10 tackles to go with two pass breakups, and a forced fumble. Jewett recorded a strip-sack to stop Centre's attempt at a game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter, and both of his pass breakups came on third-down throws. This season, Jewett leads the Tigers with 40 tackles overall.
Special Teams - Matthew Syverson - Freshman Punter - Berry
Syverson helped No. 10 Berry to a 31-14 win over Millsaps, Saturday. He punted five times for a 40.4-yard average including a long of 62. His 62-yard boot came in the third quarter and was downed at the Majors' one-yard line. With a long field, the Vikings defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing drive. The 62-yard punt is the second-longest in Berry history.
