ATLANTA (Nov. 13, 2017) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that P.J. Settles (Rhodes), Duke Sherrell (Rhodes), and Kip VanHoose (Hendrix) have been named SAA Football Players of the Week.
Offense - P.J. Settles - Junior QB - Rhodes
Settles continued his outstanding season, Saturday. Settles broke single-season records for rushing touchdowns (16) and total offense (3,780 yards). He also threw the game-winning 50-yard TD with 12.6 seconds left to defeat Austin, 37-32. Overall, Settles scored five times and recorded 522 yards of total offense. That included a career-high 220 rushing yards.
Defense - Duke Sherrell - Junior LB - Rhodes
On the opposite side the ball, Settles teammate Sherrell was also great. The junior linebacker finished with 10 tackles, which included six solo stops. He also recorded an interception with a four-yard return and forced a fumble in the third quarter. Finally, Sherrell added a pass breakup and 1.5 tackles for a loss.
Special Teams - Kip VanHoose - Freshman KR - Hendrix
Against Millsaps, VanHoose broke open a 7-7 tie to start the third quarter with a 93-yard kickoff return for a score. He would late score again during the quarter to push the Warrior lead to 14. Overall, VanHoose averaged 58.0 yards per return on Saturday.
