BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (May 25, 2019) - Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Champion No. 15 ranked Birmingham-Southern advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division III College World Series after the Panthers completed the sweep of Coe in the NCAA Super Regionals.
The Panthers, who are now 39-13 overall, after winning the best of three series.
After winning in extra innings Friday night, BSC took control early on Saturday. The Panthers led 11-1 after six innings. Coe would add one final round in the top of the eighth, but it would not be enough. BSC starter John Michael Shirley, along with relievers Hanan Mauldin, and Tristan Harvin combined for six strikeouts and allowed only nine hits.
On offense, the Panthers had 12 hits and took advantage of three Coe errors. Individually, shortstop Alfredo Granier led the way with three hits, two runs, and one RBI.
After all eight NCAA Super Regional concluded with two-game sweeps. BSC will play in the College World Series which will take place at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which starts on May 31.
