Brandvoid and Garrett earn weekly SAA Baseball awards

ATLANTA (April 15, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Riley Brandvold of Sewanee and Alex Garrett of Rhodes have been named the SAA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honorees.


Alex Garrett - Rhodes

Garrett pitched in three of the four wins this week for Rhodes, going 2-0. The Lynx relief pitcher only gave up three hits and had no walks in 3.1 innings of work. He also finished with an 8.10 K/9 ratio.

Garrett entered game one of the series vs. Berry in the top of the eighth with a runner on base. He got out of the jam and threw a scoreless ninth to earn the win. He then entered game three of the series with two outs to get out of the inning and picked up the win when the Lynx scored in walk-off fashion to earn the sweep over Berry.


Riley Brandvoid - Sewanee

Brandvold recorded a 7-for-15 weekend at the plate as Sewanee swept Millsaps. The Jacksonville, Fla., native recorded three homers and a double, while driving in five runs and scoring five times. He also finished 1.133 slugging percentage and reached base in half his at-bats.

Brandvoid finished with multiple hits in each game and also stole three bases. All his offensive production led Sewanee to new heights as the Tigers set the program single-seaosn wins record.
