Toner and Lavender named SAA Baseball Players of the Week

ATLANTA (March 19, 2018) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Will Toner of Birmingham-Southern and Justin Lavender of Sewanee have been named the SAA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honorees.

Will Toner - Birmingham-Southern

Toner had a great week at the plate for the Panthers, helping BSC to four straight wins. In the midweek game against Stevens, Toner was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. Then, in the series against Sewanee, Toner was 7-for-11. He was 4-for-5 in game one with three doubles, a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. He followed it up with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, hitting another home run and scoring another three runs.

Toner finished the week with a .714 batting average and a 1.429 slugging percentage.

Pitcher

Justin Lavender - Sewanee

Lavender tossed eight shutout innings against Covenant, as the Tigers defeated the Scots, 8-0. The freshman allowed three hits and struck out two batters. Of his 99 pitches, 60 were strikes. He also stopped the bleeding for the Tigers against Birmingham-Southern, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing three hits.

On the week, Lavender finished with an 0.63 ERA in 14.1 innings of work.
