ATLANTA (March 5, 2018) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Spence Johns (Pitcher) of Berry and Connor Woodall (Player) of Millsaps have been named the SAA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honorees.
Spence Johns - Berry
Topping the conference with a 0.00 ERA, Johns continued to be a dominant force on the mound for Berry this week, earning two more wins. Johns earned his first win of the week against Covenant on Tuesday night, tossing five innings while allowing just one hit and no runs, striking out seven Scots en route to the 9-7 victory. He then tossed an additional six innings against Emory on Sunday, allowing just three hits and no runs, while striking out five Eagles.
Johns currently sits at 3-0 on the year, allowing just five hits in his 15 innings of work, while boasting a conference-best 0.00 ERA and striking out 16 batters. Johns held opponents to a mere .111 batting average on the week, averaging 9.82 strikeouts per game, while adding nine putouts and four assists.
Connor Woodall - Millsaps
Woodall was outstanding at the plate for the Majors. Woodall finished 7-for-15 at the plate for a .467 batting average. He also scored seven runs, had two doubles, a homerun, and five RBI. Additionally, he stole two bases and slugged .800. Of the four games during the week, Woodall had multiple hits in three contests and only struck out once.
