ATLANTA (Feb. 26, 2018) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Andrew Mink (Player) of Oglethorpe and Jake Cook (Pitcher) of Birmingham-Southern have been named the SAA Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week honorees.
Jake Cook - Birmingham-Southern
Cook earned a win after he tossed 7.0 innings against Wheaton on Saturday. In that contest, Cook allowed just one earned run off four hits. He also had two strikeouts. With the win, Cook improves to 3-0 this season.
Andrew Mink - Oglethorpe
Mink had an outstanding week for the Stormy Petrels, leading his team to a non-conference victory over Piedmont and a series win over Berry. Overall, he went 11-for-18 over the four games with a home run, three doubles, a walk, eight RBI, and six runs scored.
In the Petrels' SAA opening series against Berry, the Oglethorpe sophomore first baseman went 9-for-13 with a home run, two doubles, seven RBI, and four runs scored. That included a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance in Saturday's 8-1 win, which clinched the series for the Petrels.
