INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 5, 2019) – Centre College is the recipient of the December/January Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative, the NCAA announced this week.
The NCAA Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative recognizes and promotes outstanding diversity-related projects, programming and initiatives that are occurring on Division III campuses and in conference offices. Each month, the award recognizes an institution or conference in regard to a diversity-related event, program or initiative.
Centre athletics' student-athlete diversity board was cited as the main factor for the department garnering the award.
"We applaud the institution's creation of a student-athlete diversity board, and the board's goals to develop a mission and vision to positively impact and increase the athletics department's diversity and inclusive environments," said Dan Dutcher, Vice President for Division III. "The creation of the board will positively impact all of Centre's student-athletes and the entire campus."
Brad Fields, Centre's Director of Athletics, commented, "The creation of a student-athlete diversity board (SADB) came about from our student-athletes wanting to find positive ways to increase awareness, and action, in this important area. The SADB has some similarities in structure to SAAC, but with a more singular focus, and of course, is another opportunity for our student-athletes to engage in active leadership opportunities."
