JACKSON, Miss. (Dec. 11, 2018) - Millsaps College today announced that Director of Athletics and Recreation Donnie Brooks has accepted a position as Director of Athletics at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Since his arrival on May 1, 2016, Brooks has worked to elevate the blending of scholastic and athletic excellence. He conceived and executed "The Major Difference," a holistic approach to developing the professional and personal characteristics of Millsaps scholar-athletes. During Brooks' time at Millsaps, the department added varsity men's and women's swimming, built the College's first varsity track and field facilities, created the first full-time strength and conditioning office in the athletics conference, added full-time assistant coaches to all varsity sports, expanded varsity cheerleading and dance, and developed focused study hall sessions.
Along with his duties at Millsaps, Brooks served as the current Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Athletic Directors Council Chair.
"Donnie made huge strides forward for our athletics, recreation, strength-conditioning, and staffing programs, all of which benefited the student experience," said Vice President and Senior Dean for Student Life Brit Katz. "While he will undoubtedly elevate Macalester College's athletics through his contributions, his absence will be felt on our campus.
Brooks's final day at Millsaps will be Friday, December 21.
