Dr. Robert "Jake" Bell has been named the Southern Athletic Association's coordinator of men's basketball officials. Bell will handle all officiating assignments for men's basketball in the new league set to begin play in the fall of 2012.
Bell was a teacher and head football coach for 25 years at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky. During this time he was officiating basketball in the Ohio Valley Conference, Sunbelt Conference, Conference USA and the Southeastern Conference. Additionally, he worked numerous NCAA tournament games.
After teaching and coaching, he served as assistant principal and principal of Henry Clay High School. Upon retiring he became the Athletic Director at Georgetown College and Eastern Kentucky University. Bell was the first Coordinator for the Mid-South Conference, an NAIA Division I Conference. In addition to his duties with the SAA, Bell is the coordinator for the Atlantic Sun Conference which features teams in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
