ATLANTA (July 19, 2017) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Concordia University Wisconsin will join the conference as an affiliated field hockey member beginning with the 2017 season.
"I am very pleased to announce our affiliate membership in the SAA for the sport of field hockey," said CUW Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill. "The SAA is a perfect fit for us at this time and we believe we can provide their members a very solid partnership and an enhanced geographic footprint."
The Falcons are immediately eligible for all conference awards and will have an opportunity to compete for the league championship this fall.
During Concorida's inaugural season in 2016, the Falcons played five games against SAA schools. CUW played Transylvania twice while also competing against Hendrix, Centre, and 2016 SAA champion Rhodes.
"The announcement of joining the SAA is also very vital for our emerging field hockey program as our team will have a consistent schedule and our young women will now be eligible for the SAA Championship and conference awards," stated Barnhill.
Concordia University Wisconsin is located in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Spanning six states, the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) core members include Birmingham-Southern College, Centre College, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, Oglethorpe University, Berry College, Rhodes College, and the University of the South.
The SAA also has affiliate memberships with Transylvania University, Concordia Wisconsin, and Ferrum College in field hockey and Trinity University and Austin College in the sport of football.
